Melissa Fleis is an American fashion designer currently based in San Francisco, California. Since receiving her Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University in 2011, and her Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan in 2001 - Melissa has been committed to launching her self-titled brand.
After studying with former Alexander McQueen advisor Simon Ungless at the Academy, Melissa spent her Fall/Winter 2012 season interning under Italian designer, Alessandra Marchi while in Lucca, Italy. Shortly afterwards, Melissa was selected to participate in Lifetime’s Project Runway Season 10, where she went on to show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week as a finalist in the top three.
Melissa has been focusing her most recent efforts on creating her line of handmade leather garments and accessories - as well as building her company through various fashion shows, gallery events, interviews, collaborations, and educational workshops. She has spent the rest of her time designing custom order, and made to measure garments for a select group of personal clients.
Melissa’s Fall 2013 collection of leather jackets and hand-embroidered accessories is currently available through The NWBLK gallery, in San Francisco. Having always been fascinated with German art movements such as Bauhaus, and Dada. Fleis combines her bold, architectural silhouettes with a modern, artisanal edge. Melissa designs her clothing for the contemporary woman, as well as herself.
